Public Policy

Alabama is a complex environment for assisted living.

ALAA continually monitors public policy initiatives and regulatory changes that impact our communities and the seniors who live in them.

Alabama public policy is complex. The Alabama Department of Public Health licenses assisted living. The State Health Plan is developed by the Statewide Healthcare Coordinating Council. The Certificate of Need Review Board oversees the granting and enforcement of CON matters relating to dementia care in SCALF communities.

Assisted Living is regulated by states. There are no federal regulations for assisted living. There are however, many federal regulations and policies that impact how assisted living communities are managed.

This space will continually post and update changes and adaptations to public policy that affect assisted living.
